The Fresno County Democratic Central Committee (FCDCC) today elected Michael D. Evans as chair at its biennial reorganizational meeting. Evans replaces Gary Alford, who is stepping down after one term as FCDCC chair.

Evans ran on a platform of unifying the party, building relationships and getting the work done. “We are all Democrats with the same broad set of goals. What brings us together is far greater than what separates us. Working together, we can accomplish all of our goals.”
Noting that the voter registration in Fresno County recently shifted to a Democratic advantage, Evans said that “we have turned the county blue in terms of voter registration, but that won’t mean much unless they actually vote and vote Democratic. It will take the talents of many committed Democrats and many hours of hard work to make that happen, but the payoff will be enormous.”
Evans previously served as parliamentarian of the FCDCC and as an alternate for Alford. He attended the Fresno Citizens Academy, and co-chaired the Central Valley Candidate Training in January of this year that the FCDCC cosponsored with the Fresno-Madera-Tulare-Kings Central Labor Council. He is a member of the Kennedy Club of the San Joaquin Valley, the Democratic Women’s Club, the West Fresno Democrats, the Stonewall Democrats and the San Joaquin Valley Democrats, as well as the Central Valley Progressive PAC, the National Women’s Political Caucus and Peace Fresno.
The FCDCC also reelected Larry Johnson as treasurer and elected Gary Lasky as auditor. The balance of the officers will be elected at the August meeting.
“The Central Committee has an important job to do, and we must ensure that it gets done. Voter registration, voter education and GOTV are critical to our mission. We must also find, nurture, train and support candidates, raise money to help elect our candidates and strengthen the local party’s presence in the community. Our primary job is to facilitate the election of Democrats and promote Democratic principles.”
